Xiaomi Mi 8 - Flash MIUI 10 Global Beta Android Pie

The Mi 8 has a good specs and decent pricing as well, which makes it a good option for those who are looking for a new phone. It comes with MIUI 10 Global Stable but it is up to Android 8 Oreo. In this article I am guiding you on how to flash MIUI 10 Global Beta Android 9 Pie version of it. I have been using it for a while now and everything is just good.

Unlock Bootloader

1. Go to MIUI Unlock Site.

2. Create a login id when you are there.
3. Download the Unlock Tool after you login.

4. Make sure you already login to the Mi Account in your device.

5. Go to your phone and enable Developer Options.
6. Once enabled, go to Developer Options -> Allow OEM unlock and Mi Unlock.

7. Boot your phone into fastboot mode via Volume Down key and Power button.

8. Run the Mi Unlock Tool and and connect your phone.

9. It will have 2 reminders of unlocking will erase the data on the device. Just click on unlock anyway to continue on. Please make sure backup is done if needed. If there is a waiting time needed to unlock your device it will then show on the screen. The waiting time varies from different devices so don't worry too much, your time might be shorter than mine.

10. Once you have reached your waiting time you can then just unlock your phone using the Mi Unlock Tool.

11. As a reminder, unlocking the phone will erase everything in your phone, so make sure backup is done.

Flashing the Image File

1. If you are already on Global Beta Android 9 Rom you can just use the OTA update.

2. If you are on lower version, then you need to flash via Fastboot method.

3. Download the MIUI 10 Global Beta for Mi 8.

4. Extract the downloaded image into a folder and copy the path.

5. Download the Mi Flashing Tool and install it.

6. Boot your phone into fastboot mode via Volume Down key and Power button.

7. Launch the Flashing Tool then connect your device to the computer.

8. Click on Refresh to get the device detected. Paste the path of the extracted ROM into the text box.

9. There are 3 options for you to choose for the flashing.

Clean All - Wipe everything on your phone and flash.
Save User Data - Wipe everything except user data and flash.
Clean All and Lock - Wipe everything on your phone, flash and relock the phone.

10. For the first time, it would be better to use clean all or clean all and lock. Depends whether you plan on flashing it again next time, once it is locked your device will be wipe again during unlock.

11. Once you are done with your selection just click on the flash button and waiting for it to complete. Once it is done flashing the device will reboot into the new MIUI 10 Global Beta Android 9 Pie.
